"Argo" is a historical drama film directed by Ben Affleck, released in 2012. The film is based on the true story of the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis, in which 52 Americans were taken hostage by Iranian militants after the U.S. embassy in Tehran was seized. The film follows CIA agent Tony Mendez (played by Affleck), who is tasked with rescuing six American diplomats who managed to escape the embassy and are hiding in the Canadian embassy.
To extract the Americans, Mendez devises a plan to pose as a film producer scouting locations for a science fiction film called "Argo," and to bring the diplomats out of the country as members of the film crew. The film received widespread critical acclaim for its direction, acting, and screenplay, and won several awards, including three Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
